How does the Opus 88 eyedropper filling system work? +
Fill the barrel directly with bottled ink using the glass eyedropper that's included with the pen. Once you screw the valve closed, the ink will be sealed out of the feed, which means you can carry it without worrying about ink flooding the nib. Unscrew it a few turns and ink flows down to the feed and nib while you write. Because the ink lives in the entire barrel, the reservoir holds around 3.5ml on the full-size models, far more than a converter. 
What's the difference between the Opus 88 Koloro, Jazz, and Omar? +
All three share the same eyedropper filling system and steel nib. The Koloro pairs an acrylic barrel with an ebonite cap and blind cap, which gives it a warmer and more traditional feel in the hand. The Opus 88 Jazz is the colorful, expressive line, with rotating seasonal and holiday editions. If you like the feel of a hefty pen, the Omar, at 1.19oz, is the heaviest one in the range.
Which Opus 88 model is the best one to start with? +
Start with the Koloro. It’s comfortable in most hands and its ebonite cap is a pleasure to hold, making it a natural choice for your first Opus 88. It also shows off the big eyedropper reservoir, which is half the fun of owning one of these pens. Are the ebonite or acrylic Opus 88 pens better to write with? +
Because both use the same steel nib and eyedropper feed, they write similarly, so the real difference is in how the material feels. Ebonite, used on the Koloro's cap, is lighter and doesn't produce that cold metallic sensation. Instead, it has a soft, traditional depth that many longtime collectors prefer. Acrylic is glossier, harder-wearing, and comes in more colors and clear demonstrator finishes.
Do Opus 88 eyedropper pens leak or burp? +
Rarely. The valve acts as the burp control and regulates ink flow, so the pen behaves well on the page and in your bag or pocket. Close the valve partway if the pen gets too wet as the reservoir empties.
Can you fly with an Opus 88 fountain pen? +
Yes! The valve that seals the ink off from the reservoir makes it much safer in the air than a standard eyedropper. Screw the valve fully closed before takeoff so cabin pressure changes won't push ink toward the nib. It's still smart to fly with the pen either full or nearly empty rather than half-full, and to pack it nib-up, since it's possible even for valve-sealed eyedroppers to leak in rare cases.
What nib sizes and styles do Opus 88 pens offer? +
Opus 88 pens come with stainless steel nibs in extra fine, fine, medium, broad, and 1.5mm stub sizes, with a 2.3mm stub available on the Bela pens. There are also elastic fine and elastic extra fine options that are compatible with Omar, Jazz, and Demonstrator, which use a common #6-size JoWo-style nib. Can you use ink cartridges or a converter in an Opus 88 instead of an eyedropper? +
No, you can't use cartridges or a converter in these pens, because the Opus 88 is designed to be filled with the included glass eyedropper directly from an ink bottle. The reservoir holds much more ink than a converter would, so it's a design choice rather than a limitation. The tradeoff is a longer commitment to a bottle of ink, so choose one you'd like to see slosh around in the reservoir.
Are Opus 88 pens a good choice for fountain pen beginners? +
They're a good choice for adventurous beginners, as long as you're comfortable filling from a bottle of ink. The steel nibs are forgiving and write smoothly out of the box, but the one learning curve is the shut-off valve, since a closed valve is the most common reason a new eyedropper won't write.
