Compatibility is the most important factor when choosing Kaweco nibs. Checking your specific pen model before purchasing helps ensure a smooth swap.
Kaweco fountain pens generally fall into three common Kaweco fountain pen nibs:
- Screw-In Nib Units (060 Series): These are complete assemblies that include the nib, feed, and threaded housing. They simply unscrew from the grip section and can be replaced in seconds. This style fits many metal-bodied Kaweco pens, including the AL Sport, Brass Sport, Steel Sport, AC Sport, Liliput, Special, Student, Dia2, and Elegance.
- Friction-Fit Nibs: Pens such as the Classic Sport, Skyline Sport, and Frosted Sport use a fixed housing. Instead of unscrewing the entire unit, you gently pull the nib and feed straight out of the section to swap them. Using a small piece of rubber or grip material can help if the nib feels snug.
- 250 Nibs: Larger Kaweco models, such as the Supra and Elite, use the Kaweco 250 nib, which is designed specifically for those pens and is not interchangeable with the 060 system.
Pro Tip: If you aren't sure which version you have, look at your pen's grip section. If you see two small notches on the rim of the housing, it’s a screw-in unit.
