The Pelikan Souverän M1000 Raden Stardust “Hoshikuzu” Fountain Pen is a breathtaking fusion of two extraordinary traditions: Pelikan’s German mastery of fine writing instruments, built on over 185 years of craftsmanship and innovation, and the refined decorative artistry of Japan’s centuries-old maki-e techniques.
“Hoshikuzu,” meaning stardust, is a poetic tribute to a night sky scattered with shimmering light. This vision is brought to life by the renowned artist Yamazaki Mushu and his collective, Hoshu-kai, a distinguished group of Kaga maki-e masters based in Yamanaka Onsen, Kaga City, Ishikawa Prefecture. Each pen reflects the meticulous dedication and artistic heritage of this revered atelier.
Crafted using the traditional raden technique, the pen begins with a deep black urushi lacquer base, evoking the vastness of the cosmos. Three types of finely crushed abalone shell are then delicately applied in vertical streams using a Funzutsu (powder tube). As light moves across the surface, the pen reveals an iridescent interplay of violet, blue, green, and silver, capturing the brilliance of distant stars.
The raden inlays are sealed beneath layers of clear lacquer, then carefully polished over time to achieve a rich, mirror-like finish. Accented with radiant 24k gold-plated trim, including Pelikan’s iconic clip and double cap bands, the pen embodies timeless elegance and precision.
Each M1000 Stardust is individually signed by the artist and features a limited-edition number applied using the maki-e technique, making every piece truly unique. Presented in an elegant paulownia wood box, it reflects the reverence, artistry, and heritage behind its creation.
Built on Pelikan’s flagship M1000 platform, the pen is fitted with a hand-finished 18K gold nib in medium, delivering a smooth, expressive writing experience. The internal piston-filling system ensures generous ink capacity and reliable performance, making this masterpiece as functional as it is collectible.
