The sheen inks in Wearingeul’s collection shift color when viewed from different angles, while shimmer inks sparkle in the light. All sheening inks have a base color and a secondary color that appears as a sort of metallic shine. Shimmer inks, also called glistening, have a base color and tiny metallic particles, or “glitter,” suspended in the ink. Neither effect is necessarily better than the other. They just perform different kinds of drama on the page.

A properly stored 30mL bottle goes a long way, but the real question is whether a particular ink will keep you coming back to your desk.

If the paper is high-quality, these inks won’t feather. They run wet enough to show off their color, which is what makes them fun, but the tradeoff is that cheap, absorbent paper may not keep up. That’s where you get feathering, spreading, or bleeding. For office paper, use a finer nib and avoid the wettest, most saturated colors. On better notebooks and fountain-pen paper, Wearingeul inks are always well-behaved and perform their best.

Wearingeul shimmer inks can clog a fountain pen if left sitting too long, especially with a fine or extra-fine nib. That’s not unique to Wearingeul, all shimmer inks have the potential to cause clogging and flow issues. Shake the bottle gently before filling, use a medium or broad nib when possible, write with the pen regularly, and flush it well before switching colors.

Most of these bottled inks are not water resistant, which is worth knowing before you address an envelope or write something you can’t replace. Wearingeul is a dye-based ink line built to exhibit literary flourish, not waterproof permanence. Unless a specific ink page says otherwise, assume it is not waterproof. For journals, letters, and everyday writing, this may not matter at all, but for anything that needs to survive water, choose a water-resistant ink from the start.

To use Wearingeul Glitter Potion, add it to a bottle of non-shimmering ink at roughly a 1:10 ratio, about one part potion to ten parts ink. Shake the potion first, add it with an eyedropper, then cap and shake again to mix. A single 10mL potion can transform about three 30mL bottles, so a little goes a long way. If you'd rather not commit a full bottle to the sparkle transformation, mix a small test batch and add more potion until you reach the sparkle you want. After that, treat it like any shimmer ink: shake before filling and flush the pen before glitter settles in the feed. The point is to add sparkle, not turn your favorite bottle into a science experiment.

Yes, you can use the ink in dip pens. In fact, using a dip pen is perhaps the easiest way to play with Wearingeul’s multi-tonal, high-sheen, and shimmering inks. Without a feed for the glitter to settle in, there’s no need to flush the pen afterward. Just dip, write, rinse, and repeat!
