The fifth installment of Sailor’s Teatime Around the World series celebrates the serene elegance of the Japanese tea ceremony, Cha-no-yu. This centuries-old ritual embodies harmony, respect, purity, and tranquility, and the Nerikiri ballpoint pen pays tribute to the artistry of Japanese confectionery and tea traditions, blending aesthetics and craftsmanship in every detail.
Inspired by Nerikiri, a traditional Japanese sweet made from white bean paste (Shiro-an) and soft mochi (Gyuhi), the pen reflects the delicate colors and artistry of these seasonal confections, carefully selected to complement the flavor and experience of Koicha, the thick matcha served during tea ceremonies. Additional ceremonial elements, such as Kuromoji (a wooden food pick used to cut sweets) and Kaishi (traditional washi paper used as a napkin or plate for sweets), inform the pen’s refined design.
The Nerikiri Slim Ballpoint Pen features a translucent beige cap, a translucent violet barrel, and a translucent white cap top, finished with IP gold-plated trim. It uses a twist mechanism with a 0.5mm black oil-based ballpoint, compatible with Sailor 18-0103 refills.
