Best Multicolor Pens : Top Picks for Smooth Writing [2026]

Multicolored pens: If your first thought was ‘ooo, conference swag’ then welcome, my friends!

Growing up, I was the child that constantly had branded multicolored pens from whatever conference my parents had attended most recently. And let me tell you, those pens are totally underrated! While the conference ones tend to have meh ink, many of the larger pen brands, loved by enthusiasts, have also put out versions that include the inks already used in their standard pens.

Lamy 2000 4-Color Multi-Function Ballpoint Pen

If you want a pen that looks meeting ready, this is the pen for you. This pen shares its body shape with other Lamy 2000 pen models but offers you access to green, red, blue & black ink all in one pen. Like other Lamy 2000 pens the body is polycarbonate reinforced by fiberglass then covered with stainless steel giving it a very polished look. The body colour options in this pen are LIMITED. Currently it is only available in brushed stainless (black) or stainless (silver) but if what you are after is a sleek looking pen that doesn't look like it contains multiple colors of ink, this is probably the best option on the market in 2026.

Uniball Jetstream 4 & 1

Uni once again offers the most multi-function pen options out of anyone. The Uni Jetstream 4&1 comes in dozens of variations from tip size, to number of tips, to body colour and body material. Unlike most other products in this category it comes in 3 nib sizes (0.38mm, 0.5mm, 0.7mm) making it the most versatile option on this list. The ink is fraud-resistant and water-resistant making it an excellent choice if you need your notes to stay put. I almost think this pen offers too many options, currently I can find 23 body colour options and that is before you start looking at tip sizes or other variations for number of tips. If you just want to buy a pen but aren't 100% sure on what you want, this number of options can be slightly overwhelming. If you are looking to buy one of these pens I would decide on nib size and then decide on color to help limit the overwhelming number of options.

Zebra Sarasa Multi 4-Color Pen

Zebra Sarasa Multi 4-Color

Zebra actually makes a few versions of this multifunction pen. My favourites though are the 4 color (green, red, blue, black) + 0.5mm pencil, the 2 color (red & black) + 0.5mm pencil or the 3 color (red, blue, black). All 3 pens contain the Zebra Sarasa ink that I have waxed on about in my gel pen blog. But unlike other brands, Zebra offers a level of customization not often seen in the multicolor pen market. In most brands, you are limited to one pen layout and a few body colours but like every other Zebra line, they give consumers options to decide how many inks they need and if they want a pencil or not. Zebra does offer some of the pens in a 0.7mm pen option but they do not seem to contain the Sarasa gel ink. The only thing that would make this pen better for me is them offering a metal body option, it would slightly raise the price of the pen, but seeing as some sites do offer refills it would be a nice upgrade to help extend the lifespan of the pen.

Which Multi-Color Pen is Best for You?

Overall, it all comes down to price and personal preference in ink. If you want something that looks professional and has weight to it, well then the Lamy 2000 is for you. If water-resistance is your priority, the Uni Jetstream is probably the best option out there. But if you want a fantastically smooth gel pen ink that glides across a page, I would go for any of the Zebra Sarasa options. The only downside with Zebra is that in my opinion the pens still look ‘conference swaggy’ so depending on your place of work they may not be office-appropriate.

(Editors's note: while Goldspot Pens does carry the Lamy 2000 4-Color Ballpoint Pen, we do not offer the Uni Jetstream 4 & 1 or the Zebra Sarasa Multi at this time. If you'd like us to carry these pens in the future, please contact us by e-mail or DM and let us know you'd like to purchase these pens from Goldspot)

Final Thoughts on Multi-Pens

To end this article I thought I would touch on the pen I desperately wish I could have included…

Unfortunately my absolute favorite multicolor pen is the Franklin Covey Hinsdale pen that was made by Cross in the 2010’s and appears to have been discontinued sometime in the past 5 years. It contained 3 colours of ink as well as a mechanical pencil. The ink wasn’t fancy but it worked well and was my first introduction to ‘fancy’ pens. I got my first one of these pens in high school at some point and adored it, it became my ‘no you can’t borrow it’ pen for fear it wouldn’t be returned to me’. Sometime during my first year at university I must have asked my Dad to order me a second one. In the chaos of the end of my first year and a cancer diagnosis, the pen got forgotten about. Six years later during a recent office cleanout, my Dad found the pen, still brand new in its packaging. So I am back to having my favourite multicolored pen again.
