When writers achieve a flow state, they reach below the surface of consciousness to a powerful source of ingenuity. It is said that seaweed, since it grows underwater, represents the gift of inspiration, good luck, and abundance. With that in mind, Ikkaku named this handcrafted writing instrument Hai-Zao, Japanese for "Seaweed."
When you handle the Hai-Zao fountain pen, your mind will slip under the waves, feeling the push and pull of the current as you move the pen across the page in fluid strokes. As you gently apply pressure on the downstroke, the Regalia Writing Lab Cross Flex Nib yields, painting the paper with brush-like lines.
Nib meister Ralph Reyes crafts and tunes each Cross Flex nib so it will be sublime when you ink it up for the first time. The nib's custom ebonite feed will keep up with the flow necessary for this flex nib fountain pen.
Only 18 pens are made in this exclusive, hand-applied urushi design. Dark green, gold, and clay red combine in a beautiful pattern down the length of the Hai-Zao cap and barrel.
IKKAKU, Japanese for the English word Narwhal, is the name of Nahvalur’s subsidiary brand of handcrafted urushi fountain pens.
Each Hai-Zao Urushi Pen comes in a beautiful wood box and includes a converter, although the pen can be converted for eyedropper use.
