While fountain pens are intrinsically "retro" by nature, writing technology has evolved over a century since the first pen appeared with its own ink reservoir. The modern fountain pen has been refined to a state where contemporary materials and advances in technology have eliminated the operational issues of the past.
The 21st Century fountain pen user has a respect for the art of writing as well as a fond appreciation for the aesthetic of writing instruments made before the invention of the ballpoint, typewriter and personal computer. Montegrappa aims to recreate a pen from the 1930s golden age that meets with today's standards of modern construction.
"Nazionale" takes its name from an Art Deco inspired collection that was part of the Elmo catalog back in the late 1930's. Faithful to the original style, the Nazionale returns as a limited edition of 200 pens made worldwide, constructed from a rare, vintage marble green celluloid.
The contemporary component to this pen is the 14kt gold flex nib installed, which offers line variation unlike standard tip gold nibs. The elegant cut-outs of the nib's shoulders give the nib its elasticity at the demand of the writer applying gentle pressure their handwriting.
