I bought this pen after seeing it reviewed by S.E. Brown. I decided to go with the Yellow Tang (Zebrasoma flavescens) and I am quite pleased. The pen is more of a demonstrator in t... view morehat it is a clear yellow with swirls that put me in mind of a cat's eye marble. I filled mine with black ink and it gives it a distince bumblebee look. While it says it's a fine, it definitely writes like a medium. I would suggest you flush the pen before your first use. I was having trouble filling the pen, so I flushed it with plain water and the problem disappeared.
Other things you should know are that the section is not removable, and the nib is a screw so I am not sure what brand of nib is compatible with this pen. Also, this pen does not post. Not that it needs it. It is a good sized pen and when capped is longer than a Lamy Safari. The pen has a sufficient weight to it that is is quite comfortable in the hand and is on the girthy side without being so fat that it's uncomfortable.
All in all it is tough to come up with any complaints. It is a handsome, inexpensive piston fill pen that writes very nicely and comes in some great, playful colors, plus you can buy an adorable crab to go with it that is in fact a very good pen rest that will accommodate just about any pen you own. view less
The yellow swirls are lovely, and the writing is smooth. I wonder if the manufacturer or Goldspot test write before shipping. It had slight left over blue ink. I noticed it because... view more I inked it with Colorverse String. Doesn’t bother me but others might consider otherwise. I thought the writing experience is quite similar to Kakuno medium nib. Kind of a round touch, if you know what I mean. I also purchased the crabs, and they are absolutely cute and functional! I was pleasantly surprised to find out that they are manufactured by a company in Japan. Anyways I am eager to try other pens by Narwhal. view less
It's a nice pen. It writes more towards a medium than a fine in my opinion. I really prefer EF based on my writing style but I liked the looks of the pen and for a piston-filler $4... view more5 was very reasonable. My only knock on it is I see a small scuff type mark on the cap finial. It's a small thing but I'm OCD and I noticed it right away. view less
Very cool pen and the crab is patiently holding it for me to use. The pen is very good looking, well constructed, and is a good writer. It's also easy to clean and maintain. I used... view more Diamine Tobacco Sunburst which looks great in the Yellow-Tang model. Overall good value will buy from Goldspot again. view less
A: The acrylic pen and cap are fashioned from the same material that has matching color throughout. The initial image shows the cap differently but if you see the picture on the listing that has the cap on the pen, you will see it is the same color material throughout.
Q: How do you disassemble the grip section and nib sections? Are they glued? I've twisted with all my might and can't loosen either one. I also can't pull the nib and feed out of the nib section. Everything seems to be finished very tight. Nice quality but I'd also like to be able to...view more tinker with it, give it thorough cleanings and swap in nibs at my convenience. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.view less
A: The nib and feed assembly can be screwed out, but the section cannot be disassembled. It is glued in. You can watch our tutorial video on how to swap the nibs here - www.youtube.com/watch?v=bqZlxvb7D28
A more thorough disassembly video is coming soon.
Q: Has there been any attention paid to the fine nib writing more like a medium or more? Love piston fillers, but will this one be easy to get into if one has to replace the seals? Love the yellow tang! Thanks
Jerry Shaw
A: Yes, the nib writes more like a medium point, as many writers have noticed. The piston mechanism is not designed to be taken apart. While it is possible, we wouldn't recommend it.
